A Big Day

We had the big ultrasound today. The tech told us that first she would check the organs and take all the pictures for the doctor, and then we could try to sneak a peek to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl. After she took all her pictures for the doctor’s file, she started showing us different parts of the baby, starting with his head, brain, heart (you could see all four chambers!), umbilical cord, etc. Then she showed us the baby’s "goods." She asked if we wanted to make any guesses. I tilted my head sideways and said, "I’m still gonna guess boy." She said, "I think you’re right. See this right here? Little girls just don’t have this." She said she’s pretty sure it’s a boy, and right after she said it, he moved and bam! his goods were really obvious on the screen. We all laughed. Then she told us while she was trying to look at his various organs, he kept flipping around and flashing his goods. Well, he’s definitely not shy about being a boy!

Everything looks great. His heart rate was 150bpm. He measures at the same due date I’ve had all along, July 29th. She even told me he now weighs 1 pound! It was so good to see baby moving on the screen!

Here's a picture of us today at 18 weeks 5 days pregnant [sorry about the bad lighting]. We're now hoping for a boy. Nate has felt him moving and kicking several times, and of course I feel him on a daily basis. We just feel like he's a boy. That's a little crazy, but true!

Progress Report

Nate is listening to sad music right now while he's working on a project. It's making me think all these strange thoughts.

The baby and I are doing well. I'm 17 weeks 5 days today, and I can feel him moving all the time. I say "him" because it is grammatically correct when you don't know the gender of the person to which you are referring. We will more than likely find out whether we're having a boy or girl in about 3 weeks. I kinda want it to be a boy at this point since I know 12 other pregnant people and so far everyone seems to be having a girl. They're also stealing all the good girl names.

The other night while I was lying in bed I kept thinking of great things to write, but maybe they weren't really that great. Maybe I was just really sleepy. When you're really sleepy everything seems more than it really is. My ideas for writing seem better. Jokes seem funnier. Annoyances seem more horrible!

Last night I spent the first night away from my husband since we got married. There was a bad ice storm and I ended up getting stuck at my parents' house. It was too dangerous for Nate to try to drive all the way out there after he got off work at 10pm. He couldn't even get his truck up in our driveway so he parked on the street. Meanwhile, I slept on a couch in my parents' basement in borrowed pajamas. And Nate slept in our bed alone. I finally woke up around 12:30 this afternoon and drove home since the roads had been cleared. Nate was still in bed! After lolling around with him until 1:30, I had to get up and cook some breakfast and get ready for work.

Seriously, did the Cranberries write any happy songs????

Eight Weeks Out

The wedding is now 8 weeks away, and I'm getting nervous. Not the kind of nervous where you don't want to get married, because I really, really want to get married, oh, so much. I can't wait for the day after the wedding, when everything has settled down, and we no longer have any appointments with people talking about flowers and dance songs and ivory versus white tuxedo shirts. I can't believe how easy it is to get caught up in all those little details. They seem so important until you stop to think about what it is you are freaking out about. It's fluff that I have to get past so that I can get to the other side where I have the privelege of waking up with Nate every morning. I can't wait for the practical side of it to begin. I can't wait for life with him.
